Gans Invited
to Give Las Vegas Review
Journal Danny Gans might be getting the next best thing to a royal audience before the Queen of England. The king of Las Vegas voice impressionists has been invited to appear on the Royal Variety Performance, which is billed as Britain’s premier entertainment event. A 40-year institution, the variety special is such a hit among Brits that Queen Elizabeth II usually attends to meet the performers. Over the years, talent has ranged from Sammy Davis Jr. to The Spice Girls. Because the show must go on—Gans’ relocated show at the Mirage—he won’t be able to attend the Dec. 4 event, but he is exploring the possibility of performing by way of a satellite feed. In a letter to Gans’ agent Chip Lightman, event president Laurie Mansfield said the theme of this year’s show would be Las Vegas “and its impact on the entertainment world. To this end, the BBC and myself feel that there is only one entertainer who covers both the tradition of the old and the excitement of the new and that is (Gans).”
